A guide for lash artists

Why lash extensions fall off early: a retention checklist.

When sets stop lasting, check four things in this order: the room, the bottle, the lashes, the placement. Each has a quick test, and each is in your hands.

Start with the room

The checklist

Check in this order.

  1. The room

Read the hygrometer during the set. Adhesive Pro works from 40 to 80% humidity and 20 to 30 °C. Outside a regular glue's range the bond sets too slowly or too fast.

  2. The bottle

Shaken for 30 seconds, inside its opened life, stored upright with the air squeezed out. Adhesive Pro keeps for 3 months once opened, or 1 month in daily use.

  3. The lashes

Cleansed, rinsed and primed sparingly. Oil, make-up and residue are what break a bond.

  4. The placement

One extension on one isolated lash, with a small dip. With a UV glue, the lamp close enough and angled so the light reaches the bond itself.

Reading the signs

What the fallen lash tells you.

Ask the client to keep what falls, or look at the gaps at the fill.

Feature Most likely cause What to check
The extension falls with the natural lash still attached Natural shedding Nothing: the bond held to the end of that lash's life
Extensions fall alone in the first days The bond did not grip the lash Cleansing and primer first, then the bottle's opening date
Several lashes come away together Lashes bonded to their neighbours Isolation, and the size of the dip
Sets hold in one season and not in the next The room moved out of the glue's range The hygrometer reading at the start of every set

What is normal

Count the natural shedding first.

Natural lashes shed every day and take their extensions with them. The lash artists' pages we read put it at 1 to 5 natural lashes a day, which is 14 to 70 by a two-week fill. That is the lash cycle, not the glue.

Natural shedding

1–5a day

Stated by four of the 13 pages we read.

By a two-week fill

14–70lashes

The same figure, over 14 days.

Between fills

2–3weeks

The interval most of those pages give.

The room, removed

One check fewer with a UV glue.

A UV glue sets under the lamp, not with the moisture in the air, so the room comes off the checklist. Adhesive Max sets in 0.5 to 1 second in any humidity and holds for 10 to 12 weeks. For lashing without UV LED, Adhesive Pro is the best standard glue, with a working range from 40 to 80% humidity.

How long do UV lash extensions last?

Questions

Retention, answered.

Why are my lash extensions falling out?

Work through four things in order: the room's humidity and temperature, the bottle's age and storage, how clean the lashes were, and the placement. And count what is normal first: natural lashes shed every day and take their extensions with them.

How many lash extensions should fall out per day?

The pages we read, read on 4 October 2026, put natural shedding at 1 to 5 lashes a day, each taking its extension with it.

Why are my lash extensions only lasting a week?

A set that goes within a week points at the bond, not at shedding. Check the reading during the set against your glue's range, then the bottle's opening date, then the cleansing. Inside its range, Adhesive Pro holds for 7 to 8 weeks and Adhesive Max for 10 to 12.

How do I stop lash extensions from falling out?

Lash on clean lashes, inside your glue's working range, from a bottle inside its opened life, one extension to one isolated lash. Then hand the client an aftercare sheet.

Does the glue or the aftercare matter more for retention?

Both count, and only one is yours to control at the bed. Get the bond right with the four checks above, then give the client the aftercare sheet.

How often should a client book a fill?

Most of the pages we read say every 2 to 3 weeks.
