A guide for lash artists

Does lash glue expire?

Yes. A lash extension glue has two dates: how long it keeps sealed, and how long it keeps once opened. Adhesive Pro and Adhesive Max both keep for 5 months unopened, and Adhesive Pro for 3 months once opened, or 1 month if you lash every day.

Unopened

5months

Adhesive Pro and Adhesive Max.

Adhesive Pro, opened

The signs

How to tell a bottle is past it.

  1. Thick or clumpy

The sign most pages name: 9 of the 13 we read.

  2. Stringy

The drop pulls threads as you dip.

  3. Slow to grip

In a room inside the glue's range, a glue that takes longer than it used to has aged.

  4. Retention drops

Sets that held stop holding, with nothing else changed.

Storage

How to store it.

Store lash glue cool, dry and upright, and close it properly after every use.

  1. Cool and dry

Away from sunlight and heat. One maker we read gives 15 to 24 °C.

  2. Upright and closed tight

Wipe the nozzle, squeeze out the air and keep the bottle pressed while the cap goes on.

  3. Shake before each use

For 30 seconds, cap off, with a nozzle wipe folded over the tip. Shaking mixes the formula.

  4. Date the bottle

Write the day you opened it on the label, and count from there.

The fridge question

Fridge or no fridge?

Makers disagree. Of the 13 pages we read, 2 allow the fridge for a sealed bottle and 3 advise against it for any bottle, because moisture forms on a cold bottle when it comes out. Our own glues ask for a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.

UV glue

Storing a UV glue.

A UV glue sets with light, so light is what to keep it from. Store Adhesive Max away from sunlight and from your lamp, and keep the drop on your ring out of the lamp's light during the set.

Questions

Lash glue shelf life, answered.

Does lash glue expire?

Yes. Unopened, Adhesive Pro and Adhesive Max keep for 5 months. Once opened, Adhesive Pro keeps for 3 months, or 1 month if you lash every day.

How long does lash glue last once opened?

Adhesive Pro: 3 months, or 1 month in daily use. Most makers of regular glue say about 4 weeks. UV glue makers say from 1 to 6 months.

How long can lash glue last unopened?

Adhesive Pro and Adhesive Max keep for 5 months unopened, in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.

How do you tell if lash glue is bad?

It is thick or clumpy, it pulls threads as you dip, it takes longer to grip than it used to in the same room, or sets stop holding with nothing else changed.

Can you revive old lash glue?

No. Once the glue has thickened or set it does not turn liquid again. Change the bottle.

What happens if you use expired lash glue?

The same signs as a bottle past its life: it grips more slowly than it used to, and sets stop holding as long. Change the bottle.

How often should lash glue be replaced?

Adhesive Pro keeps for 3 months once opened, and we advise a new bottle every month if you lash every day. The drop on your ring: replace it as soon as it thickens.

Should lash glue be kept in the fridge?

Makers disagree: of the 13 pages we read, 2 allow it for a sealed bottle and 3 advise against it. Ours ask for a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.

Do I need an airtight container or silica gel?

Four of the 13 pages we read keep the bottle in an airtight container, and four add silica gel packets to keep the air around it dry. Our own glues ask for a cool, dry place, upright and away from sunlight; a closed container in a dry drawer does that.
