A guide for lash artists

Best lash extension glue: how to choose.

No single glue suits every lash artist. Your method, your pace and the air in your room decide it, so start there. Six questions, and the glue each answer points to: Adhesive Pro, our best standard glue, or Adhesive Max, our more powerful UV glue.

Our picks

Six questions

What decides the glue.

  1. Lamp or no lamp?

If you cure with a UV LED lamp, you need a glue made for it, one that waits, liquid, until the light comes on. If you do not, you need a regular glue, which sets with moisture from the air.

  2. How quickly do you place?

A regular glue starts to grip the moment the extension meets the lash, so its dry time is your working window: about a second for Adhesive Pro, one to two for most others. A UV glue has no window: it cures only when you press the pedal.

  3. How humid is your room?

Regular glue is particular about the air. Most are made for 40 to 60% humidity; Adhesive Pro's range runs on to 80%, which keeps it working through a humid summer. UV glue is not affected by the air at all.

  4. How long should a set last?

Retention is each maker's own figure, and your application and the client's aftercare decide it in the end. Ours: 7 to 8 weeks for Adhesive Pro, 10 to 12 for Adhesive Max. Most regular glues give 6 to 8 weeks as their upper limit.

  5. A black line or clear?

A black glue darkens and defines the base of the lash; a clear one vanishes, which is what you want under light or coloured extensions. Pro is black, Max is clear.

  6. Sensitive clients?

Fumes are what clients notice most. Choose a glue that is very low in them and lists every ingredient: both of ours do, and neither contains latex or formaldehyde.

Questions

Choosing a lash glue, answered.

What is the best lash extension glue?

It depends on how you lash. Lashing without a lamp, Adhesive Pro is our best standard glue. Lashing with UV LED, Adhesive Max is the more powerful glue, with our longest retention. The picks, situation by situation

Which lash glue holds the longest?

Of our two, Adhesive Max: 10 to 12 weeks when it is applied well and the client looks after the set, and it needs a UV LED lamp. Lashing without UV LED, Adhesive Pro gives 7 to 8 weeks.

What lash extension glue works best in Canada?

One that copes with Canadian seasons. A dry, heated winter room slows a regular glue down and a humid summer speeds it up: Adhesive Pro works from 40 to 80% humidity. Adhesive Max cures under the lamp, so the seasons make no difference to it. Lash glue and humidity

What is the best lash glue for sensitive eyes?

Look for very low fumes and a full ingredient list. Both of ours have both and contain no latex or formaldehyde, and Adhesive Max is also free of TPO. Lash glue for sensitive eyes
